(Re)nationalising the Australia Power Grid
The Australian Workers Party will be seeking to have the electricity grid nationalised and put it back under ownership of the Australian people.
Removing corporate greed from the equation, and shifting the focus away from coal to renewable technologies, is the only way to bring prices back down to affordable levels for all Australians.
Privatisation of our national infrastructure and assets has proven to be a monumental failure – and privatisation of our essential services has taken a basic right, a basic essential service, and priced it as a luxury many people frequently cannot afford.
To have our elderly and our vulnerable having to choose at times between heating and eating – choosing which of their necessities they can least afford to do without, is a source of shame for our country. And an issue that needs immediate rectification.
We will seek a national energy grid buy back - at the prices they were sold for. There is no call for profit margin in these transactions, as these foreign companies have made more than enough profit off the backs of hard working Australians for far too long.
We would further seek, as a penalty, and further deterrent for other corporations operating our national infrastructure and essential services, to reduce the buy-back price incrementally, based on the company’s failures to meet their obligations and service requirements during the term of their lease/ownership.
It’s past time the Australian government accepts that the mass sell-off of essential and strategic assets has been a monumental failure that has cost everyday Australians – in terms of employment opportunities, financial security, standard of living, and we believe, in some cases, human life.
This is an issue that needs immediate rectification
